Former Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling will face his former employers when they visit the Etihad Stadium on Thursday in a monumental Premier League clash with Manchester City, but he is on course to have a miserable night.
On the chalkboard
The versatile England international has played in a range of different attacking positions this season including as a false 9 and a centre-forward, but in recent weeks with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus fit he has been either on the left or right wing.
Two successive games on the latter were followed by one on the former against Southampton at the weekend, although the 24-year-old of course has the ability to switch wings throughout the fixture.
With nine goals and six assists, as per Transfermarkt, in 17 Premier League appearances so far this term, he will be one of the danger men Jurgen Klopp and his defence will know they have to stop on Thursday.
Sterling in for a bad night
The winger actually comes into this match with one goal and no assists in his previous five top-flight outings, and his misery looks set to continue against his former team.
Liverpool are a force to be reckoned with defensively and have only conceded on eight occasions in the Premier League so far during the current campaign, and in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson they have a formidable pair of full-backs.
Both players have the pace and defensive nous to keep Sterling quiet at the Etihad, and given the form they are in compared to Sterling, the attacker is on course for a disappointing evening.
