According to a source, speaking to Korean news outlet Footballlist and translated by Transfermarkt, an update has emerged on Southampton’s chase for Shandong Taishan midfielder Son Jun-ho.
The Lowdown: Saints join chase…
Reports out of Korea over this last week have linked Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side with a move for the 29-year-old who helped to spearhead his side to the Chinese Super League and Chinese FA Cup last year.

Nicknamed ‘the star of Shandong’, Jun-ho’s performances in midfield alongside former Premier League star Marouane Fellaini have drew much acclaim – apparently attracting the interest of Hasenhuttl.
Navier Sports first broke news that Southampton are the most interested in signing Son, and while Fulham have now entered the picture according to Footballist, they also back interest from St. Mary’s Stadium.
The Latest: Source shares update…
According to a source, speaking to the Korean news site (as translated by Transfermarkt), it is ‘true’ that the Saints are keeping tabs although they now face competition from Fulham.
It is explained:
“Fulham has been thinking about signing Son Jun-ho. We approached in detail, such as inquiring about the cost and conditions of the recruitment. It is true that Southampton, which was reported earlier, is also interested.”
The Verdict: Get it done?
Amid the competition for his services, Southampton transfer chief Martin Semmens could strike a shrewd back up option in a swoop for the three-time South Korean champion.
The 13-cap ace, who has managed 39-assists from midfield across his senior career in all competitions (Transfermarkt), is more than just a natural defensive midfielder and can seemingly inject a level of creativity when required.
He is able to play in front of the back four, a bit further forward in central midfield and in a more advanced playmaker role with Jun-ho’s versatility coming as a useful option for Ralph (Transfermarkt).
