Martinez escaped a sending-off for an ugly tackle on Palmer that caught him on his left knee. Referee Rob Jones cautioned the United defender initially and the VAR decided to stay with Jones' original call. As the Argentine continued on the pitch, Blues boss Enzo Maresca was left fuming as he clearly believed that it was a red card offence.

Maresca granted his players a day off on Monday after a gruelling encounter against the Red Devils. They came back from behind to play out a 1-1 draw. The club had hoped that Palmer's soreness would settle down but he will now undergo a scan to find out the exact extent of his injury, according to .
