As reported by The Herald, Rangers youngster Jamie Barjonas has paid tribute to veteran striker Kenny Miller for helping him make the transition from the U20s into the first team at Ibrox.
What’s the story?
Barjonas recently made his debut, coming off the bench away to Partick Thistle last week, and again featured for Pedro Caixinha’s side on Saturday at home to Hearts.
Just 18 years old, he’s one of a number of young players to make the breakthrough since Caixinha took charge at Ibrox in March.
Now he’s thanking 37 year old Miller for being a huge influence and helping make his dream come true.
As quoted by The Herald, the youngster said:
“Kenny Miller has been a big influence on me. He comes in on his days off, he helps out at training with the under-20s and comes to our games too. If you ever need his advice he’ll sit you down and talk for hours if you need. Not every senior player would do that so he has been a great role model for me and a lot of the other under-20 players.”
Those’ll be encouraging words for Rangers fans after Miller recently signed a new contract at the club.
Given his age, there were question marks surrounding it but he’s been doing the business on the pitch this season and if he’s going out of his way to mentor young players then there’s a massive added benefit.
