Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that star midfielder Dele Alli will undergo a special fitness program to avoid burnout, according to reports from the Mirror.
Alli has been a revelation this season after arriving from MK Dons in the summer, with the 19-year-old emerging as one of the first names on the team-sheet for Pochettino.
His displays are set to see him in England boss Roy Hodgson’s plans this summer, with Spurs in the race for the title as well as a shot at the Europa League trophy.
However, Hodgson is worried Alli will be jaded after already playing a massive 43 games this term, but Pochettino admitted that he cannot rest one of his stars and will instead focus on a special program to aid his overall fitness.
Pochettino said: “He is an incredible athlete, yes. But he is not a machine. He has a problem in his ankle and knee.
“We have a lot of players who are young and in their first or second season in the Premier League. It’s very tough and we spend a lot of time analysing and to find information to give the best training sessions or recovery or to find the best way to help them.
“Maybe we expect from him to run more than 14k in every game. I think he was one of the best players (against Arsenal). He showed energy and character. Yes, we are having to manage him, but not only him.
“We assess the players every day and we take the best decision for the team. We try to look after all the players. We have played a lot of games and we come from a difficult season because we played a lot.
“But I think that we have good staff, good sports science and medical who can look after the players in a good way.”
Luckily, Alli’s ban in Europe means he will sit out the first leg of their Europa League clash against Dortmund on Thursday, giving him around a week to rest before a trip to Aston Villa.
